The Houston Police Department is investigating the passing of fraudulent checks in the area. 

The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Houston Police Department:

•An officer was dispatched Dec. 28 to The Bank of Houston regarding a report of fraudulent checks.

A bank employee showed the officer a check for $297.82 bearing the NAPA Auto Parts logo, the bank’s name and a non-existent account number and routing number. The check was reportedly passed at the Houston Town and Country Supermarket, and a copy of the exact same check was passed later the same day at Town and Country in Licking.

Similar checks were reportedly also passed at Town and Country grocery stores in Cabool and Mansfield. An unknown man is a suspect, and investigation of the case continues.

•Patrick L. Vaughn, 25, of 8198 Morton Road, Lot 2, in Houston, was issued a citation for stealing under $500 after allegedly shoplifting bottles of liquor from Walmart on Dec. 31.

•Tammy A. Giller, 43, of 16931 Highway N in Licking, was arrested Jan. 6 for having an active felony warrant for burglary.

An officer made the arrest at the state probation and parole office after being advised Giller was there. She was taken to the Texas County Jail where she was unable to post $150,000 bond.
