Margie DeLois Smith, 75, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Mountain View Health Care.

She was born Nov. 10, 1940, in Ripley County, daughter of Hume Edgar and Edith Jewell Emmons Skaggs. She married Billy Joe Smith.

She was a teacher for 25 years in Summersville and Alton. She was also a nurse for 20 years. She graduated with teaching degree from Three Rivers College and RN degree Southwest Missouri State University.

She loved flowers and gardening. She enjoyed traveling to New Mexico each summer with her husband, Bill, and their dog, Max. They had a cabin in Eagle Nest, N.M., where they made many friends who they kept in touch with through the years.

She loved the annual nurses night out. She could spend all day out in her yard, working with her flowers and sometimes her weeds. She loved the mountains of New Mexico with all her heart. She and Bill spent many summers there with all their friends on the mountain. She liked to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She enjoyed a good yard sale or flea market.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; two brothers, Oran and Tom Skaggs; and a sister, Ruth Lour.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Kay Hawkins and Anita Gale Hawkins; seven siblings, Glenna Woodring, Kit Skaggs, “Cathy” Sue Turner, Ruby Hatfield, Pauline Steele, Bob Skaggs, and Ann Roark Thomas; special friends, Mickey Pelley and Janice Kiesling of New Mexico.; and many extended family members.

A memorial visitation is Monday, Jan. 25, at Bradford Funeral Home.
