This photograph won a statewide contest. It will appear in the 2015-2016 Official Blue Book Manual.

A Houston woman’s photo was the winner in a statewide contest to be featured in the 2015-’16 Official Blue Book Manual.

Barbara Romines’ photo of Alley Springs Mill on the Ozark Scenic Riverways was judged the top entry in the “Day at the Park” category. The honor was announced by Secretary of State Jason Kander.

In the announcement letter, Kander informed Romines, “A picture is worth a thousand words, and your photo had elements that fellow citizens connected with and believed it truly captured the essence of Missouri’s historical sites.”

The photo will be displayed in Jefferson City, the Houston Visitors Center and will be featured in the 2015-2016 Official Blue Book Manual.

Romines said she is delighted that the photograph was chosen. She visits Alley Springs often and encourages everyone to explore where we live, “There are many beautiful and amazing wonders to see and enjoy right here in Missouri.”

Kander’s office received more than 100 entries from participants around the state and after several rounds of voting the judges picked three finalists in three categories. Public voting began on the nine finalists in October 2015, and his office tallied more than 1,000 votes submitted by Missourians across the state.
