A fire earlier this month at an unoccupied house at Yukon remains undermined, according to Raymondville Fire Department Chief Mike Jackson.
Jackson said firefighters from his department and the Summersville and Tyrone volunteer departments responded Feb. 18 to the blaze at a two-story house near Highways 137 and 17.
“Most of the bottom floor had flashed and there were lots of flames when we arrived,” he said.
Jackson said the fire appeared to have originated in a downstairs living room. A fire marshal was called in to investigate, but the cause of the blaze was undetermined.
The home was originally constructed for Walter and Ida Scheets in about 1940. In later years, their son, John and his wife, Elva, resided there.
The home had been unoccupied since the Jan. 6 death of Thomas W. Wolvers, 66.
