A Houston man faces charges after a stabbing that occurred Friday night at Mountain View, authorities said.
Donald Newell, 26, 413 N. Broadway, faces felony charges of first-degree assault with serious physical injury and armed criminal action.
According to probable cause statement, the Mountain View Police Department was called to the emergency room at Mercy Hospital just after 10:30 p.m. and talked to a victim, who said Newell had stabbed him three times at a home off of North Pine Street and fled. The victim was later flown to a Springfield-area hospital with serious injuries.
Newell was arrested just before 11:30 p.m. and during an interview, reportedly told police that the victim attacked him, and he had stabbed the victim in self-defense.
Witnesses to the incident corroborated the victim’s story, authorities said.
