Officials in Upton Township advise area residents that traffic will temporarily be detoured as a low water crossing on Campbell Road at Plum Valley Road is replaced with a new, larger bridge.
Township board president Ernie Mesa said construction began this week on a much wider bridge with 10-inch slab surface that will be raised well above the creek bed and feature four metal culverts, each 48-inches in diameter and 20 feet long.

Upton Towship board president Ernie Mesa stands last Thursday on a low water crossing on Campbell Road at Plum Valley Road where construction of a new larger bridge has begun this week.
Mesa said the project should take 10-14 days to complete, and that the concrete would then be allowed a three-day curing period before the new bridge opens for traffic. Alternate routes include Highway AJ and Plum Valley Road.
The work is being done by J & M Construction, of Texas County.
“I wanted this to be done right so it only had to be done once,” Mesa said. “And I wanted it to be safe for people.”
