A Plato teen was seriously injured Thursday morning when her vehicle veered into the path of an Intercounty Electric truck about two miles north of Roby on Highway 17.
Tpr. Marty Wiseman said a northbound 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Chelsea E. Whetstone, 19, of Plato, crossed the center of the roadway and struck the southbound 2015 Dodge Ram 5500 truck operated by Steven C. Atkinson, 56, of Salem.
Whetstone, who was wearing a seat belt, was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Atkinson, who also was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
The Roby Fire Department assisted at the scene, as did Cpl. Curtis Haden and Tpr. Curtis Hubbs of the patrol.
The car was totaled, and the Intercounty truck had extensive damage, the patrol said.
