Sales tax revenue in Houston was up during the latest monthly period. For the first two months of the year, the tally is up about 2.2 percent.

A strong monthly sales tax report in Houston was enough to propel the year-to-date numbers into the black, the Missouri Department of Revenue said.

The total from a one-cent sales tax was $71,576, which was up $5,886 from the same period a year ago.

In the first two months of the year, $124,684 has been generated. That’s up $2,697 from last year.

Merchants also collect two, quarter-cent sales taxes for streets, sidewalks and utilities. Each contributed $17,339.

An eighth-cent sales tax is for debt retirement on a fire truck. That totaled $8,669.
