The Houston Rural Fire Department Rescue Squad's Jon Cook crawls on a vehicle as personnel work to free two men trapped inside it Sunday afternoon in Houston. The accident occurred near Airport Road and West Highway 17. The minivan ran off the road and came to rest in a creek.

Two men escaped serious injury Sunday afternoon when their mini-van ran off Airport Road and landed in a creek bed.

The van was headed eastbound when it ran off the road (southwest of the Lynch-Tweed House), went down an embankment and came to rest on its side below a concrete box culvert bridge.

Members of the Houston Rural Fire Department Rescue Squad responded to free the men – driver, Rocky Gilbert Sr., and a passenger, Michael Carr, who was reportedly visiting from out of town. They were taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital.

The Houston Police Department and Houston Rural firefighters assisted at the scene.

“The Houston Rural rescue squad did a great job on this,” said HPD Chief Tim Ceplina. “We’re fortunate to have a group like them in this community, and the assistance they provide is always top-notch. We appreciate them a lot.”
