The first session of the Houston Mayor’s Walking Club took place Monday.
Houston Mayor Don Tottingham and about 30 walkers met at Rutherford Park (on Westwood Drive) and headed out for the first of 16 scheduled group strolls.
The club is sponsored by Healthy Schools Healthy Communities (HSHC) and will feature two sessions per week through June 9.
HSHC community coordinator Earlene Stoops said a widely circulated walking club schedule indicated that several of the sessions would begin at the Texas County Health Department. Instead, those sessions will begin at the Lone Star Plaza, in downtown Houston between First Street and Grand Avenue.
Stoops said 58 people signed up for the club prior the first session.
