A petition filed in Texas County Circuit Court seeks a recount of the votes on a Summersville School District issue.

The Summersville School District is seeking a recount of a $1.2 million ballot issue that lost by just a handful of votes on April 5.

A petition was filed Thursday that seeks a recount of the votes in the Summersville School District, which includes parts of two counties, Texas and Shannon.

The issue needed four-sevenths of the votes (57.14 percent) for passage. It received 56 percent. The measure would have passed if only five who had voted “no” would have supported it.

Funds would have been used to improve student safety, energy efficiency improvements and renovations such as roofs, heating and cooling, as well as windows.

A 39-cent levy per $100 assessed valuation was required for debt service.
