American Cancer Society Event

A variety of activities are planned today in downtown Houston to benefit the American Cancer Society.

It is the inaugural American Cancer Society Festival of Texas County, and it is planned today. It runs from 4 to 10 p.m. at First and Pine streets in Houston.

A car, truck and motorcycle show — sponsored by Romines Motor Co. in Houston — runs from 3-7 p.m. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.

All vehicles may be entered for a $10 donation. Registration at the plaza starts at 2 p.m. Pre-registration can be accomplished by calling Joel at Romines Motor’s parts department at 417-967-4134.

Trophies from first, second and third place will be presented in various categories, including Best Classic, Best Late Model, Best Ford, Best Stock (uncustomized) and Best in Show.

A concert begins at 5 p.m.

Also included is food, games for kids, entertainment, a silent auction, survivor recognition and a luminaria ceremony.
