The Houston tennis team shut out Licking 9-0 last Tuesday.
Sarah Kelley, Grady Todd and Trenton Smith led the way with 8-0 singles victories. Celina Castleman was an 8-1 winner, Yuka Katogi was victorious 8-4 and junior Lucas Kelley defeated his opponent 8-5.
HHS won all three doubles matches by 6-1 tallies. Teaming up for the wins were Sarah and Lucas Kelley, Katago and Todd as well as Smith and Marley Stoops.
On Friday, Houston was beaten 8-1 at home by Willow Springs.
Todd won his doubles match 8-1 for the Tigers’ lone points.
Houston lost four matches by 8-6 scores and two by 8-5 tallies.
“This is the second best team in our conference,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “Although we only won one match they were all close but one. We have gotten so much better.”
