Texas County's jobless rate was 5.5 percent in May.

Texas County’s unemployment rate continued to show improvement in May as the jobless rate dropped to 5.5 percent, reports the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

That’s a decrease of three-tenths of a percentage point from the previous month.

In the south-central region, the average was 5.5 percent.

The county’s civilian work force was 9,539 with 526 unemployed.

Area counties and their unemployment rates were: Douglas, 5.4; Howell, 5.9; Shannon, 6.6; and Wright, 5.1.
