A sheriff’s deputy reporting being shot at multiple times last Sunday in southern Texas County.
Authorities said the officer was investigating a case at about 4 p.m. May 29 at a Howell Road residence near Mountain View.
The officer reported that while he was speaking with a man at the location, he heard a truck turn tires on Highway Y, just out of sight. Approaching from the south, the vehicle – a small pickup – slowed down and the officer heard what sounded like a gunshot.
The truck then sped way up and two more shots were fired in the direction of the officer. As the truck pulled even with the house where the officer was, three or four more shots were fired.
The officer then drew his service pistol and was able to see that the vehicle was a dark blue or purple extended cab pickup, with very darkly tinted windows. The officer pursued north on Highway Y in his patrol vehicle, but was unable to locate the suspect’s truck.
A neighbor verified hearing the gunfire.
Investigation of the case continues.
