A lawsuit filed against an insurance carrier has resulted in a $260,000 settlement paid to Texas County, according to court documents.

In 2010, Texas County government filed a lawsuit against Continental Western Insurance Co. seeking recovery of attorney fees and from a paid settlement in a lawsuit filed against it by Carol Wilson in 2009 and costs associated with a second lawsuit filed against it by Monica Daniel Hutchison in 2008.

In paying the settlement, the insurance firm denied all liability for the claims asserted by the county, which was represented by Gray, Ritter & Graham, a St. Louis firm.

“It’s a shame it dragged on as long as it did,” said Texas County Presiding Commissioner Fred Stenger. “But it’s good to have this behind us, and it’s good that all parties were satisfied with the settlement.”
