The 106th edition of Houston’s longest-running annual event ends a three-night run Saturday evening with a fireworks show.
The Old Settlers Reunion features three days of activities at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds. It concludes Saturday night with the fireworks display at dark. The event is organized by the chamber.
Show-Me Amusements is providing a carnival all three nights. The chamber cook shack will be open for the event.
Here are today’s activities:
•A pet parade with free entry starts at 2 p.m. Contests include biggest, smallest, ugliest and best dressed dog. For information, call Kathleen Monks at 417-260-266.
•Old-time demonstrations run from 3-6 p.m. featuring home canning, dehydration, pie making, spinning wheel and more.
•Competitions in breads, cakes, cast iron cooking and pies also will be held from 3-6 p.m. The public may taste and vote for winners. Tickets are $1 apiece or $5 for six. There will be silent and live auctions on homemade items.
•Garold McCoy and the South 63 Band will perform a free show at 7 p.m.
•The fireworks show begins at dark.
