A Houston man arrested on child abuse and illegal drug charges made an appearance in court last week and is set for a hearing on bond reduction next Wednesday, authorities said.

Jonathan D. Southworth, 29, was arrested Aug. 18 on charges of second-degree statutory sodomy involving a teen and posted a $500,000 bond. On the next day, he was arrested again on drug charges and held without bond in the Texas County Jail after a search of his home found illegal anabolic steroids and 104 unused hypodermic needles with syringes, the authorities said.

Southworth was formally arraigned last Tuesday. On Sept. 7, Southworth is to appear in Texas County Associate Court with his legal counsel, Springfield attorney Dee Wampler.
