The Fine Arts Building is coming down.
After several months of debate and a final decision by the school board, the process began Tuesday on the campus of the Houston R-1 School District. A single employee of Gator Industrial LLC, of Joplin, meticulously started the process of tearing down the structure at the northwest corner of the three-story structure.
With steady rains falling, there were few onlookers. Dr. Allen Moss, the district’s superintendent since July 1, and a handful of administrators and members of the maintenance staff watched as they held umbrellas.Â
By the third day of work on Thursday, nearly the entire back half of the building was demolished.Â
