ABOUT THIS WEEK’S OPPONENT: Salem improved to 2-0 last week with a 37-6 victory against Sumner. …Combined with its 26-6 Week 1 win against McDonald County, Salem has allowed a conference-low 12 points. …Salem scored four first-quarter touchdowns against Sumner and led 35-0 at the half. …Senior quarterback Zak Eplin had three touchdown passes and ran for two more scores. Three different players –– J.J. McGowan, Texas Nall and Jimmy Hobson –– had TD receptions. McGowan’s score was from 63 yards as time expired to end the first quarter. …Eli Floyd, who missed most of the opener with a knee injury, had his 19th interception of his career.

TIGER TIDBITS: Seven of Houston’s nine opponents are unbeaten through the first two weeks of the season. …Sophomore CJ Lee punted five times with an average of 35.2 yards against St. James. His long was a career-best 48 yards. …Connor Clifton led Houston with 12 tackles –– three assists –– in Friday’s game.

HHS INJURIES: The Tigers suffered a big setback Friday night at St. James as Brad Wilber, a two-way starting lineman, was injured in the final minutes. He was taken to the hospital, where it was discovered his ankle was broken in three places. “He had a nice block on a kid and got it buckled up,” Tigers coach Eric Sloan said. “It looked bad and was swelling immediately. It looks like a baseball swollen up on top of his ankle.” Wilber had surgery Tuesday. …Another senior, Lucas Kelley, attempted to play with a shoulder injury after sitting out Week 1. He was injured on his first tackle attempt and was also taken to the hospital. “He’s a tough kid and wants to play all the time,” Sloan said. “You could tell by the expression on his face that he was hurt.”
