Houston High School’s annual homecoming — highlighted by a parade, queen coronation, football game and alumni activities — begins Friday and continues through the weekend.

The lineup for the 2 p.m. Friday parade through downtown begins at 12:30 p.m. Classes ending in “1” and “6” will receive special recognition and may enter a float in the parade. Contact the high school principal’s office at 417-967-3024 to enter.

The 2016 HHS homecoming queen will be crowned at 6:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium prior to Houston’s football game against Willow Springs. This year’s candidates are: freshmen Janae Huff and Viviana Guerra; sophomores Summer Floyd and Tara Stanton; juniors Jessica Schivitz and Taylor Chipps; and seniors Jolie Morgan and Jazelle Brannan.

The alumni association will host a breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Houston Senior Center. An alumni mixer starts at 2 p.m. at Hiett Gymnasium. A short program will begin at 3 p.m. with alumni updates, scholarship reports and honored classes ending in “6” and “1” will be recognized.

Romines Motor Co. is hosting its sixth annual fundraiser for Houston High School from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. The business, through a Lincoln program, will donate $20 for each Lincoln test drive, up to $8,000. More than $27,000 has been generated by the business.

The Houston Lions Club will sponsor its annual fish fry from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday inside the community building at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds. The meal will include fried fish, French fries, beans, coleslaw, dessert and drink. Cost is $8 in advance ($5 for ages 5-9) or $10 at the door.

The event supports Lions Club charities, including eyesight efforts and community activities. Old eyeglasses may be dropped off at the door.
