Revenue from sales taxes collected by Houston merchants was up about 7.1 percent compared to the same one-month period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The total from a one-cent sales tax was $70,248, which was up $4,669 from August 2015.
For the year, $489,038 has been collected in the first eight months of the year. That’s an increase of about 2 percent from the same period in 2015.
Two quarter-cent sales taxes for roads, sidewalks and utility work totaled $17,295 each, an increase of about $1,219 compared to August 2015. Collections for the year total about $119,082 each.
An eighth-cent sales tax for fire truck debt retirement totaled $1,740. The levy expired earlier this year.Â
