Sales tax revenue increased during the latest monthly distribution in Houston, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Revenue from sales taxes collected by Houston merchants was up about 7.1 percent compared to the same one-month period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The total from a one-cent sales tax was $70,248, which was up $4,669 from August 2015.

For the year, $489,038 has been collected in the first eight months of the year. That’s an increase of about 2 percent from the same period in 2015.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes for roads, sidewalks and utility work totaled $17,295 each, an increase of about $1,219 compared to August 2015.  Collections for the year total about $119,082 each.

An eighth-cent sales tax for fire truck debt retirement totaled $1,740. The levy expired earlier this year.
