A Houston man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl was indicted last week by a grand jury.

Jonathan D. Southworth, 29, who is free on $500,000 bond, is set to appear Oct. 4 before Judge William Hickle. The proceeding is at 9 a.m.

Authorities allege Southworth, who was arrested Aug. 18, inappropriately touched the girl on June 17 inside his home. She had stayed the night there with a friend.

After posting bond, he was arrested again when authorities executed a search warrant at his home. He was charged with felony possession of controlled substance and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia after authorities discovered vials of anabolic steroids and 104 unused hypodermic needles with syringes.

Southworth’s bond was revoked at that time, but he was released last week on bond with a series of conditions. The indictment means the case bypasses a preliminary hearing in associate court and moves immediately to circuit court.

He is represented by Springfield attorney Dee Wampler.
