The Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District (TCSWCD) will host a chili supper at 6 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church (202 E. Highway 17).

The guest speaker will be Jake Wilson, soil and water conservation program environmental specialist from Jefferson City, who will discuss the Parks, Soils and Water Sales Tax, (Constitutional Amendment 1) and the positive effects its passing would have on Missouri and Texas County.

Since the tax started in 1983, Texas County had 2,459 claims with a total amount of $5,818,556.94 in district cost-share payments. TCSWCD officials say the program has greatly benefited area landowners by helping them implement practices that prevent or control excessive erosion and improve water quality.
