Emergency responders are invited to join Girl Scouts from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 5 to participate in its EKG — Emergency Komfort Giveway — at Houston United Methodist Church.

The EKG is organized by Girl Scouts for all emergency personnel in Texas County and some surrounding towns. Among those expected to attend are Missouri Highway State Patrol, Houston Police Department, Texas County Sheriff’s Department, EMTs, firemen, hospital and Missouri Division of Family Services.

The girls will bring stuffed animals and adults contribute a small quilt, blanket or throw. These are presented to emergency responders to carry in their vehicles when they have an emergency that especially has children involved. All of the cars in Troop G are stocked with the items.

At a fall harvest party for the girls, where they celebrate Juliet Lowe’s birthday (Oct. 31), the girls and adults bring a wrapped Christmas present that is given to The Missouri Division of Family Services at the EKG.

Anyone may attend EKG. The program consists of a lag ceremony, introduction of guests and comments from them about how they have used the donated items in the past.

The girls will help emergency personnel gather items in big trash bags to take with them. Refreshments will be served.
