Mayor Don Tottingham speaks Saturday at the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at the Houston storm shelter at Pine and First streets. Several ministers prayed for community needs and volunteers were recognized. 

The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast was Saturday at the Houston Storm Shelter.

The event was organized by the City of Houston and Houston Ministerial Alliance. Mayor Don Tottingham hosts the annual event. Breakfast was provided by Texas County Memorial Hospital and Houston Walmart Supercenter and served by Community Betterment and Arts Council of Houston’s youth organization.

Prayers were offered for freedom, integrity, family, truth and prayer.

Several volunteers at churches and in the community received special recognition: Hope Martin, Houston United Methodist Church; Karen Rippinger, Houston United Methodist Church; Tanya Pacheco, Faith Fellowship; Becky Edison, Downtown Houston Inc., for her work on the Lone Star Plaza Annex; Debra Stockard, launching the Pregnancy Resource Center of South Central Missouri in downtown Houston; Mary Jane Lybyer, Houston First Baptist Church; and Brad Gentry, outstanding business leader for his efforts as president of Downtown Houston Inc. and publisher of the community weekly newspaper, Houston Herald. Each received a certificate and pin.
