Military veteran

Artie Eugene Patterson, 81, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at his home.

He was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Summersville, son of Artie Vester and Mary Ruth Dyer Patterson. He and Phyllis Jean Miller were married Sept. 24, 1954.

He served in the Army from April 1957 to January 1959.

He retired from McDonnell Douglas. He attended Summersville First Baptist Church.

He loved to square dance, camp, fish and being in the outdoors.

He and his wife, Phyllis, moved back to the family farm, where he enjoyed going to blue grass music shows and spending time with his family. He enjoyed visiting with others and telling jokes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents; a daughter, Debora Jean; and a son, Bobby.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Barton of Redford; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Seigel of Houston and Eunice Boyer of Summersville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Services were Monday, Nov. 28, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Heiney officiating. Burial with military honors were in Summersville City Cemetery.
