Houston Police Chief Tim Ceplina encourages local citizens to consider alternate routes as construction continues on U.S. 63 through Houston.
Ceplina said using side roads as often as possible will cut delays during the next few weeks and make the construction zone safer for everyone.
Ceplina suggests the following alternate routes:
• Highway 17 to Lilly Street, then to Holder and C.W. Harry. Turn right on Cleveland Road and later left on Indian Creek Trail. This route will place motorists on U.S. 63 south of Texas County Technical College. It also gives access to Walmart, Dollar General, the Do-It Center, The Eatin’ Place, Little House Gifts, the Laundromat and other locations.
“This route will primarily move through residential areas,” Ceplina said. “Use caution, slow down and watch for pedestrians.”
• Turn onto Thomasville Road across from Grand Avenue. Travel across Highway 17 and continue on Thomasville Road and right on Holder Drive or the final exit by turning west. The route gives access to Hardee’s, Crowley’s Homeworks, Dollar Tree, Spring Garden, Romines Motor Co., McDonald’s, Landmark Bank, Progressive Ozark Bank, Orscheln Farm and Home, Town and Country Supermarket, Cozumel and Sonic.
“We know there will be some inconveniences during the road work and hope everyone will stay alert, remain calm and use good judgment while traveling the roads,” Ceplina said. “Your safety and that of the construction workers is important. We need your help.”
