Texas County authorities are investigating the assault of an 11-year-old boy Sunday at Evening Shade.

A deputy and a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Highway AW apartment.

Before arriving, officers were advised that a medic unit was needed because an 11-year-old boy had been assaulted. Upon arrival, the officer observed that the boy had multiple injuries consisting of a bite, contusions and abrasions.

The officer spoke to the boy’s 37-year-old mother who said she and 21-year-old Jesse Carnley were moving into the residence. After investigating, the officer determined Carnley had assaulted the boy (who is reportedly autistic), and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor who charged him with abuse or neglect of a child and second-degree domestic assault, both felonies.

Carnley is held in the Texas County Jail on $500,000 bond.

The boy was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
