Attendees of a fundraiser conducted by the Raymondville PTO enjoy food and fellowship inside the gymnasium at Raymondville School.

Raymondville PTO held a hog roast dinner and auction Oct. 21, and raised $4,313 for new playground equipment for Raymondville School.

Half of a processed hog was raffled off, with Deanna Smith winning. Local auctioneer Bruce Scheets volunteered his services for the auction. Students from each classroom chose a theme and then brought in items for it. Donating to the cause were Raymondville churches (preparing the side dishes for the meal), the Blue Heaven Club (desserts), Darren and Renee Ice (the hog), Zimmerman Meat Processing, of Summersville (processing of the hog).

“The community of Raymondville came out in full force to support our school and students,” said Dana Buschmann, who helped organize the event. “The parents did an outstanding job in every classroom, and baskets were wonderful. Also, the wonderful public deserves a huge thank you for opening their hearts and wallets to give.”

Raymondville PTO officers include Shalena Purcell, Brittni Kean and Janine Merdian.

“The staff and teachers at Raymondville that worked to make this event a reflection of the pride that we have in our school deserve a thank you,” Buschmann said. “The effort and dedication to our school did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated.”
