Members of the Houston Rural Fire Department extinguish a grass fire along U.S. 63 north of Houston late Monday afternoon.

A vehicle with apparent mechanical issues caused a handful of grass fires late Monday afternoon alongside U.S. 63 in the Houston area.

Both Houston City and Houston Fire were dispatched just before 4 p.m. to the first fire near Emmett Kelly Park. Additional fires were extinguished at Highway B as well as a quarter-mile north of the intersection, Pop’s Trophies and Titan Gas.

The source was apparently a Ford Expedition vehicle with some type of mechanical problem. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was looking for the SUV.
