Texas County deputies are investigating several crimes in the county.

The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•A deputy was dispatched Nov. 5 regarding a report of a burglary at a Pigeon Creek Road residence at Licking.

A 60-year-old woman who lives there told the officer several items with a total value of $900 had been swiped, including an Australian saddle worth $500. A 40-year-old Licking man was arrested and questioned about the case, but was released due to a lack of evidence.

•On Sunday, Nov. 27, Mountain Grove Police Department request assistance with finding a parole absconder who had run from authorities the previous day and evaded searchers from multiple agencies.

This time the 39-year-old man was found and apprehended after a brief foot pursuit at a property with an abandoned trailer on Highway M near Dunn. When the man was arrested, a black leather-looking bag he had in his possession was found to contain several small baggies of methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia.

A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking felony drug charges against the man. Officers from several agencies again assisted Mountain Grove police in the case.

•A man called Nov. 28 to report that five cattle had been on his Freeze Drive property at Licking for several days, and he wanted to let authorities know in case someone reported missing or stolen cattle.

•A 23-year-old Bucyrus man came to the TCSD office on Dec. 2 to report his dog being shot.

The man told an officer he had been doing work at a relative’s house on Burton Branch Road and while he was digging a post hole at a barn near a gravel road, a passer-by in a back four-door Ford pickup stopped and shot his dog. The dog had to be put down. There are no suspects, and investigation of the case continues.
