Members of the Houston Rural Fire Department responded early Monday to a fire that ruined a house east of Houston.
Houston Rural Chief Don Gaston said three trucks and six firefighters responded to the call at about 3:10 a.m. at 16924 Highway B, one mile past the Phoenix Theater.
The home was a total loss. Gaston said the cause of the fire was not known.
“It was a lost cause by the time we got the call,” he said. “When we came down the hill toward it, the west side of the house was already fully involved.”
A Houston School District teacher – Kary Harrah – was the renter of the home. A Go Fund Me account has been established to assist her.
Three dogs were reported missing. No one else was home.
