The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A 24-year-old woman reported on Dec. 15 that she had been assaulted by a 46-year-old man at a Dixon Road residence at Licking.
An investigating officer observed a large bruise around the woman’s left eye. She said he had pushed her down and then beat her head against the ground. The officer attempted to make contact with the man, without success.
Photographs were taken of the woman’s injuries. Investigation continues.
•A deputy was dispatched to Roberts Road at Elk Creek at about 4:25 p.m. Dec. 18 regarding a report of a man who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a 59-year-old woman who said she and another woman had driven past a vehicle and thought it was just a hunter. She stated when she returned home, the vehicle – a Jeep Wrangler – was still there, so the two woman checked it out and found the dead man.
The officer observed that the man (age 22, from Paragould, Ark.) was seated on the driver’s side, and that he was holding a gun and had a wound to the face.
The county coroner was called to the scene, and the body was removed from the vehicle and positive identification was made. The vehicle was towed and death notification arrangements were made.
•A 79-year-old Houston woman reported on Dec. 15 that a furnace valued at $2,250 had been stolen from a rental unit at a Tiffany Drive trailer park at Houston. The woman named a man as a suspect. Investigation continues.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 2 a.m. Dec. 10 after a man reported people in masks outside his Hidden Valley Drive residence at Mountain Grove. The officer and the man walked around the residence but didn’t locate any suspects.
•A man called at about 9:45 a.m. Dec. 15 to report that a small aircraft might have crashed east of the Roby Lions Club. Authorities searched the area and found no downed craft. Information was later obtained that a Sho-Me Power plane was flying in the area checking power lines.
•Information was received at about 9:50 p.m. Dec. 11 indicating two females were believed lost in the Paddy Creek Wilderness area. Their trail log reported said their stay began Dec. 10 and was for two nights.
The Roby Fire Department was called and personnel searched the area until 2:15 a.m. Dec. 12. The search resumed at daylight and the females were located. They said they weren’t lost and planned to leave Monday.
•A deputy was advised at about 11:15 p.m. Dec. 7 that a man and woman wanted for a violent assault in Montana might be in the vicinity of Iron Mine Road or Bailey Road at Licking. They were reported driving a white Chevrolet dually pickup. The area was searched but the people weren’t found.
•A woman called Dec. 5 to report that brush and large rocks had been dumped on her Evening Shade Road property at Plato. An investigating officer observed no evidence of brush or large rocks being dumped there.
