Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent of Houston Schools

The Houston school board unanimously extended the contract of Dr. Allen Moss, the district’s first-year superintendent, at last week’s monthly meeting.

With a 6-0 vote, Moss’ contract was extended through the 2018-’19 school year.

Moss is completing his first year as the leader of the Houston R-1 School District. He was hired in February 2016 from a pool of five finalists to replace Scott Dill. His first contract was for one year.

Also during the meeting, board members:

•Accepted resignations from Terry Keller (high school and middle school art teacher) and Joleen Sharpe (paraprofessional). Keller is retiring from the district. Sharpe’s last day will be March 3.

•Recognized sophomore Melody Buse, the student liason to the board for the next one year. Buse will attend open sessions and provide a monthly report.

•Approved the academic team taking a trip March 23-26 to Chicago following a presentation from sponsor Jason Pounds, who shared information about the purpose of the trip, costs, fundraising and supervision.

•Received a certificate of recognition from Moss on behalf of the Missouri School Board Association for serving on the local school board.

•Heard a special services evaluation from Pat Oakley.

•Received comments from patron Jim Cavanaugh on agenda items.
