Sales tax revenue in Texas County was down in May, bringing the year-to-date total into the red.

Revenue from the city’s sales taxes jumped about 14 percent during the latest monthly distribution, the Missouri Department of Revenue says.

The tally from a one-cent sales tax was $50,898, which was a jump of $6,385 from the same month in 2016. For the first four months of the year, the total is $232,315, which is an increase of $5,136 from a year ago.

Merchants also collect two quarter-cent sales taxes — for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Each totaled about $11,809, which is up about $1,168 on each. For the year, collections are up $875 each.
