Plato Schools

Two Texas County schools were among many in Missouri that received forgiveness from the state for days missed due to flooding.

Licking and Plato were both granted waivers from the Missouri Department of Education following the recent historic flooding that forced the districts to cancel classes. State officials said the situation was similar to 2011, when about 20 districts requested calendar waivers due to flooding.

Plato said it was forgiven for missing May 1. The district’s last day is May 19.

Missouri schools are required to hold 1,044 hours of instruction time each year. Schools normally build extra days in to their year’s calendar to account for possible closures due to snow.

State law allows for the commissioner of education to grant a waiver to excuse school districts from the minimum school calendar requirement in these extreme cases.
