Revenue from Houston’s sales taxes plunged in the latest monthly report, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The total from a one-cent sales tax dropped about 22 percent in May. The agency said the total was $60,717, a drop of about $17,495 from the same period a year ago. For the year, the total is $293,032, which is down $12,359 from 2016.
Merchants also collect two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Each totaled about $14,936, which was down about $3,953 each.Â
