Waters from Brushy Creek flow hard over Walnut Street in Houston during spring flooding.

Disaster relief help was announced Friday as part of a $2.7 million award by the U.S. Department of Labor to Missouri’s Division of Workforce Development (DWD).

With the potential for up to $8 million, the National Dislocated Worker Grant funding will assist in clean-up, restoration and recovery efforts following the historic flooding and severe storms that occurred from April 28-May 11.

Through these grants, the state will provide temporary clean-up jobs to 170 Missourians.

To assist with debris removal and public infrastructure repairs, the state is seeking workers that can perform general labor, operate CDL and non-CDL equipment, and supervise crew members in Texas County.

Priority for these temporary positions will be given to individuals living in the county, who are unemployed as a result of the disaster, as well as those who were self-employed, dislocated or long-term unemployed.

Those interested in this type of work should contact staff at the Missouri Job Centers in Springfield, West Plains or Rolla for full details. To locate a Missouri Job Center, go to http://jobs.mo.gov/findcenter or call 888-728-5627.
