The Texas County Jail has a new administrator, the Texas County Commission heard last week.
According to the latest minutes of the commission that were released Thursday, July 20, Jennifer Tomaszewki, who began working late last year in the sheriff’s department, was hired to oversee the 72-bed facility. She will earn $13 an hour. The news was relayed to the commission from Texas County Sheriff James Sigman, who has day-to-day oversight of the jail.
Tomaszewki, the former manager of Bark Plaza in Houston, replaces Pam Tripp, who resigned earlier.
In other personnel matters heard by the commission:
•Learned that Nathan Alkire, a jailer, was fired effective July 5. He was the driver of a transportation van when a just-sentenced inmate escaped, sparking a manhunt June 26 near the Phelps and Texas counties line.
Escapee Christopher Hunt was taken into custody without incident in early July inside an associate’s home in Lexington, Ky.
•Heard that Glenda Campbell had resigned effective July 23 as a jailer.
•Approved the hiring of Caroline Garner as a part-time jailer.
