Here are the rates for Texas and adjoining counties, according to the Missouri Department of Social Services. Texas County has the third lowest rate in the region.
Most of those enrolled — 63 percent — are low-income children; another 16 percent are disabled Missourians, 8 percent are seniors, and 12.5 percent are pregnant women or low-income adults with children, according to a tally by the Missouri Budget Project, a liberal advocacy group. Â
