A Texas County man is jailed on $750,000 bond and faces multiple felony charges after an incident at a woman’s house shortly after midnight Aug. 16.
After a Texas County Sheriff’s Department investigation, Gary W. Wade, 57, of Plato, is charged with first-degree domestic assault and two counts of abuse or neglect of a child.
According to a probable cause statement submitted by a deputy to county prosecutor Parke Stevens Jr., a woman contacted county authorities at about 12:15 a.m. and stated that two girls had shown up at her residence and said their mother was lying on the floor of their home.
An officer responded to the address the kids gave and made contact with their mother. She said a man – Wade – had punched her in the face and tried to choke her. She told the officer one of her daughters had attempted to stop him, but he grabbed her arm and caused her to fall.
The woman said Wade then pulled a knife and threatened to kill her and the two girls.
She told the officer she talked Wade into giving her the knife and she hid it, and that the children were able to escape and ask a neighbor to call law enforcement.
The deputy spoke with the girls about the incident and their account reportedly matched the woman’s.
The officer said one of the girls had a small bruise on her arm and the woman had a contusion on her right eye and multiple bruises on her arms. Photographs were taken and the victims were transported to a hospital.
The officer ultimately made contact with Wade at his residence and he reportedly claimed to have been attacked by the woman. The deputy observed bruises on Wade’s face and arms and his injuries were also photographed.
Wade reportedly denied touching the girls or threatening to kill anyone.
Wade was arrested on Wednesday of last week and charges were filed the next day.Â
