The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A deputy made contact Aug. 8 with a Cabool man at his Sycamore Street residence regarding the man’s questions about recovering his son’s truck that was in the possession of a couple of his “dope friends.”
The officer advised the man about how to report a stolen vehicle, but also suggested contacting the people who had the truck and telling them he was going to make the report. The man contacted the people, and they gave him back the truck.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 12:20 a.m. Aug. 12 regarding a report of suspicious activity on Big Creek Road at Yukon.
The officer made contact with a 26-year-old woman there who said several vehicles had been going up and down the road in front of her house and letting people out in the woods. Two deputies searched the area and were unable to find anything or anyone suspicious.
•At about 9:50 p.m. Aug. 10, a deputy investigated a report of an abandoned ATV sitting at the side of Business Highway 60 across from the Twin Cities Industrial Park at Mountain Grove.
The officer located the ATV and a computer check on it revealed it had been reported stolen by a Nevada, Mo., couple in 2014. The vehicle was towed back to the TCSD impound yard. There are no suspects.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 11:10 p.m. July 27 regarding a report of a burglary at a Highway AW residence at Plato.
A 43-year-old man who lives there told the officer he had been sleeping and heard noises outside in a shed. When he went to investigate, the shed’s door was open and many items were missing.
The man said a safe containing $18,000 cash was stolen, along with other goods valued at $4,560. There are no suspects.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 regarding a report of 18 goats in a woman’s yard at her Forrest Drive residence at Houston.
The woman told the officer the goats could stay in her yard overnight if their owner wasn’t located. The officer combed the surrounding area but was unable to locate the goats’ owner. Several neighbors reported said they had seen the goats and they had been out for weeks.
They left the woman’s house the next day and haven’t bee reported again since.
•A 24-year-old Hartshorn woman reported on Aug. 13 that about 45 head of cattle were in the yard of her Hardwood Drive residence.
The officer made contact with the woman and told her no signs could be found of cattle being there. A man who also lives there said the cattle were longhorn cattle and had gone into the woods. The officer was unable to find cattle in the woods.
The deputy made contact with some neighbors who stated there was a herd of feral longhorns that had lived in the area for years. The officer told that to the man and woman and they said that probably explained it.
•A 48-year-old Mountain Grove woman reported on Aug. 11 that her Pine Ridge Road residence had been burglarized.
The woman told an investigating officer she had been away from the home for a few days and when she returned she found that a big rock had been thrown through a glass back door and two televisions had been swiped. There are no suspects.
•A 36-year-old Houston woman reported on Aug. 12 that a man not wearing a shirt was messing with her car near her Mineral Drive residence.
Upon arrival, an investigating deputy located the man walking with a woman along Mineral Drive. The couple had a baby pig with them that they said had gotten loose and was found under the reporting woman’s car.
•A deputy was dispatched Aug. 6 to investigate a report of a vehicle stolen from a Hightown Road residence at Houston.
A 26-year-old man who lives there told the officer a 2005 Buick Rendezvous had been swiped from his carport, along with an iPad and $300 cash that were inside. The vehicle was later located and recovered at an apartment complex on Chestnut Street in Houston. The cash was still inside, but not the iPad.
Officers spoke to residents of the apartments, but all claimed not to know anything about the situation. Investigation continues.
