Counterfeit money

The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Houston Police Department:

•Dustin M. Jones, 18, of 301 E. Highway B in Raymondville, was issued citations for driving a vehicle with expired license plates and failure to exhibit an insurance card after a traffic stop on Aug. 9.

•Stacy E. Bynum, 26, of 510 W. Chestnut St., No. 2, in Houston, was cited for operating a vehicle with expired license plates after a traffic stop on Aug. 17.

•Clifford G. Cooper Jr.,, 47, of 8115 N. U.S. 63 in Houston, was issued citations for driving while revoked and no insurance after a traffic stop on Aug. 24.

•David K. Terry, 29, of 205 Cassi St. in Licking was issued a citation for failure to register a motor vehicle after a traffic stop on Aug. 21.

•Kenneth J. Hall, 57, of 7312 Faye St. in Houston, was arrested Aug. 26 for having an active City of Houston warrant for stealing under $500.

An officer who was aware of the warrant made the arrest after observing Hall on North U.S. 63. On the way to the Texas County Jail, the officer conducted a computer check and found that Hall also had an active Howell County warrant for passing bad checks. Upon arrival at the jail, Hall was unable to post the $300 bond on the Howell County warrant or the $600 bond on the Houston municipal warrant.

•An officer was dispatched to Walmart at about 4:40 p.m. Aug. 19 regarding a report of counterfeit money.

The officer made contact with a member of management who said a fake $20 bill had been received from a man trying to buy a moneygram at the service counter. The man – a 39-year-old Houston resident – said his wife had gotten the bill from Landmark Bank.

The bill was seized as evidence and sent to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation.

•An officer was dispatched to Walmart at about 7:20 p.m. Aug. 19 regarding a report of counterfeit money.

The officer made contact with a member of management who said an employee at the service counter had been given a fake $20 bill by a 40-year-of woman who is a Houston resident. The manager said the employee had told the woman the bill wouldn’t work, and that the woman had then tried to pay with a fake $10 bill.

After being told neither bill was any good, the woman reported grabbed them off the counter and left. The officer reported that no contact has yet been made with the woman who had the counterfeit bills.

•Michael W. Malota, 28, of 513 Phelps St. in Houston, was arrested Aug. 23 for having an active Houston municipal warrant for driving while suspended.

An officer who was aware of the warrant made the arrest after observing Malota at an Ozark Street residence. A computer check revealed that Malota also had an active Callaway County warrant for non-support. He was taken to the Texas County Jail.

•Kolton C. Morgan, 21, of 319 Chestnut St. in Houston, was arrested Aug. 24 for having an active Texas County warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

An officer who was aware of the warrant made the arrest after observing Morgan in the front yard of his residence. He was taken to the Texas County Jail.
