Houston coach Loran Richardson talks to her a team during a timeout at a home match.

The Houston volleyball team entered the West Plains Showdown with a two-game winning streak. They left with a four-game losing skid.

The Lady Tigers lost their matches Saturday to West Plains, Poplar Bluff, Rolla and Mountain Home, Ark.

“We were up against some big competition,” HHS coach Loran Richardson said. “Not only in the size of school, but the size of their players. All of the teams we played had multiple girls over 6′ tall. We were a little intimidated.”

Junior Kennedy Campbell had 11 kills in tournament play and Tara Stanton had seven. Janae Huff led Houston (3-10) with 14 assists and Alexis Choate had 13.

Melody Buse had 34 digs for Houston. Sevanna Rowland had four aces.

“While we did some good things at times, we played scared and didn’t play as aggressive as we can,” Richardson said. “Playing good teams like this will hopefully prepare us for the rest of our season. We still have a lot of games that can be competitive and wins for us.”
