The Houston softball team got a good look last week at two teams it could face in the postseason.

The Lady Tigers faced Hartville and Ava in a span of three days before receiving the No. 4 seed in Class 2 District 1. Both those opponents were seeded ahead of them.

Houston, which lost 11-7 at home last Tuesday to Hartville and 8-2 Thursday at Ava, will play No. 5 Seymour at 4 p.m. next Wednesday. All games will be played at Hartville High School.

If the Lady Tigers win their district opener, they would play top-seeded Ava in the semifinals. At Friday’s seed meeting, Ava was the lone team in the district with a winning record.

Kameron Hall, Taylor Chipps and Madison Curtis had Houston’s lone hits in last Thursday’s defeat at Ava. The Lady Tigers were out-hit 12-3.

Hall led off the game with a triple and Chipps followed with a double. She later scored to give HHS a 2-0 advantage. But the Lady Tigers didn’t score again.

Last Tuesday against Hartville, the district’s third seed, freshman Jaden Stell had a pair of hits in the home loss.

Houston committed five errors in both games.

After starting the season 4-0, the Lady Tigers (7-9) have last nine of their last 12 games as the postseason approaches.
