The Texas County Food Pantry’s annual “Hunger Walk” fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 29.
Long and short courses will be available, with the walking starting at 2 p.m. at the Lone Star Plaza in downtown Houston.
A Halloween costume contest for kids will take place after the short walk (at about 3 p.m.), with categories for ages 0-4 and 5-12.
A pumpkin carving and decorating contest will also be held, with categories for adults and kids and awards for best pumpkin and scariest pumpkin in both categories. Judging will take place during the walk and competitors should bring finished pumpkins.
There will also be a “Diamond in the Rough” raffle for a real diamond provided by Clair’s Jewelers in Marshfield. Tickets cost $1 apiece, $5 for six of $10 for 15, and are available at the food pantry, Progressive Ozark Bank, The Bank of Houston and the Pregnancy Resource Center of South-central Missouri. A dozen finalists will be drawn, and the winner will be determined in a fun way following the long walk.
People wishing to help raise funds and participate in the walk can pick up packets at the food pantry. For more information, call pantry executive director Katie Mutzebaugh at 417-967-4484.
The walk benefits the food pantry, Blessings in a Backpack program, the United Community Help Center and the Love Packs program.
