Today we seem to have, thanks to the left movement, social decay and the news media, a separative wedge in the playing and/or singing of our national anthem at football games.

I cannot see any reason that a person or persons cannot stand at that time. Regardless of those players that will not, let’s put it this way: Forget race, color, creed and all the other reasons, and first but not last, the First Amendment, free speech.

We already know about the fact that you have the right to free speech.

But let us go a little farther. Stand up to show respect for the country you are in, respect to the God that gives you life, respect for the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have lost their arms, legs, sight, hearing and life so you may live in a country that gives you the freedom to play the sport of your choice and make the millions of dollars each year that most of those NFL players do.

If you do not have respect to stand up for the reasons just mentioned, then I cannot see how you have any respect for yourself.

So while the news media wants to support ignominious actions, and the game managers do nothing to turn this tide of decay in the system, there will be not a reason for me to watch any of the NFL games or have respect for such.

It is really a poor time in our history that the sports field has such a control in our lives that we as free people are so willing to accept this type of action and just go on as nothing happened.

Oh how sick our society has become when the news media takes these players that do not respectfully stand up, make heroes of them and at the same time, when was the last time you read in the paper about our men and women and what they are doing overseas in military actions in harm’s way? They are the heroes! So as far as you players that do not have the respect to stand up, all you that support them, and of course you sick news media, when the national anthem is played, when the flag goes by, I’ll stand up in your place.

I’ll put my hand over my heart or salute to whichever the case may be, and shed a tear for when I’m there to put a veteran to rest in his or her earthly state and then think of all they did for all of those that are so disrespectful and thankless.

For my God, my family, my country and my flag.

J.D. Moore, Cabool
