Houston took the top prize in the state's Community Betterment Contest in October The announcement was made in Columbia.

The director of the Missouri Community Betterment program will be in Houston today (Monday)  for a reception that honors the community’s grand prize win in the statewide competition.

Teresa Keller will deliver the honors. Houston last month won the first prize in its population category and the overall top prize, took the top honor in the community table display and the local youth group took second place.

The event, which is sponsored by Houston Community Betterment and Arts Council, is 4 to 6 p.m. at the Houston Storm Shelter at First and Pine streets.
