BRAD NORTH

The Texas County Commission recently appointed a new emergency management director (EMD): Licking resident Brad North.

North is a Gulf War veteran (serving in Desert Storm) and has worked as a licensed electrical contractor for more than 20 years. The county commission said he has broad experience in emergency management and preparedness, and has received a wide range of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) training, including incident command and mass fatality management.

The commission said the flooding experienced in early May of this year – and ongoing needs experienced by approximately 67 local families – has highlighted the importance of emergency management in Texas County. The job of the EMD includes developing and maintaining liaisons with municipalities, county departments and similar entities to facilitate plan development, coordination of emergency response, exchanges of personnel and equipment and training local groups in the preparation of long-term plans that are compatible with federal and state plans.

The county EMD is also in a position to apply for federal funding for emergency management related needs and administer and report on the progress of such grants, and even developing and implementing training procedures and strategies for radiological protection, detection and decontamination.

North replaces former Roby Fire Department Chief Keith Follin, who now lives in Arizona.

North can be reached by email at emd@texascountymissouri.gov.
